How is the listening and reading portion of the CELPIP test scored?

Scoring the Listening Section:

The Listening section of the CELPIP test plays a vital role in assessing your comprehension skills. It consists of 38 questions, evaluating your ability to understand spoken English in various contexts. Unlike some tests, there are no points deducted for providing incorrect answers. You are only awarded points for correct answers, which means that guessing is encouraged if you are unsure about an answer. The tests are computer-scored, and some scores overlap between bands. It’s important to note that while you answer all 38 questions, one part of the test will be unmarked. Test takers are not informed about which questions are not counted, so it’s crucial to approach each question with equal attention and effort.

Scoring the Reading Section:

The Reading section of the CELPIP test assesses your ability to comprehend written English. It also consists of a set of 38 questions that evaluate your reading comprehension skills. Similar to the Listening section, there are no points deducted for incorrect answers. You are awarded points only for correct answers. The tests are computer-scored, and the scoring process takes into account the level of difficulty of the questions answered correctly. As with the Listening section, there may be unmarked questions in the Reading section as well. Although you won’t know which questions are not counted, it’s essential to approach each question with equal focus and diligence.
